I have always been big on menu planning, I hate not knowing what is for dinner and not having all the ingredients. I also believe when trying to eat healthy you need all the right food available. So last week before writing up my grocery list, it was time to tackle the fridge. It was full but not of consumable items. I had got slack in cleaning out my fridge. So I have now added cleaning out the fridge the day before groceries to my weekly to do list
Before

Once all cleaned out I worked out where everything would go , keeping all like items together.

We now heading towards the end of the week and I love that when I open the fridge, it is getting emptier, because we are eating all the good food.
Cleaning out the fridge also helped with the budget, as we are trying to use up what is in our freezer .

Doesn't it feel so good to open the fridge and see it all nice and clean? I tackled this job a few weeks back after what I'm ashamed to say was much too long a time - took me a whole day in between keeping Grace occupied :) I'm a fan of menu planning too and like you've suggested, try to empty out the fridge the day before grocery shopping.
Love it! We've also started planning our weekly menus. Jamie sits down on Saturday or Sunday night and goes through the cook books and picks out the menu for the following week. I then go through the recipes he's picked and write up the shopping list for groceries the next day. Love it and the variety is the best!
